The NBA Season is Back!!! By Eric T. Compton

We are officially less than one week away from the start of the regular season of the National Basketball Association at it appears that the interest of the game of basketball is at an all-time high. Some monumental off season moves took place this year with the Western Conference getting even more stronger and the Eastern Conference is wide open for the first time in the past 5 or 6 years. We will take a deep dive on some of the biggest off season storylines heading in to the 2018-2019 NBA season.

1. Will the Golden State Warriors make it 3 championships in a row?

The Los Angeles Lakers may have made the biggest free agent splash by signing LeBron James to a 4 year 154 million dollar deal but the Warriors made a title wave splash by signing Demarcus Cousins to a year 5 million dollar league minimum deal. The Warriors were able to resign the 2018 Finals MVP Kevin Durant to a two year deal with a second year opt out clause at the end of this upcoming season. With the addition of Cousins at a very low risk price and the Warriors playing their last season at Oracle Arena they will try to make it an ever-lasting one before they move across the Bay Bridge.

2. The Boston Celtics are healthy and deep

With Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving both coming off from long term injuries and only missing a NBA Finals trip by a game 7 in last year’s Eastern Conference Finals are the Celtics ready to take the next step that will take them to the promise for the first time in 8 years? The Celtics are probably the deepest team in the NBA with budding stars like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown mixing with established veterans such as Al Horford the Celtics look like this could be the year that they make a lot of noise around the league.

3. Are the Showtime Lakers back with Lebron James Moving West?

This past off season the power of the conferences took another seismic shift when Lebron James announced that he would sign as a free agent with the Lakers. With LeBron going in to his 16thyear in the league and no signs of slowing down and a young group of talent players such as Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart, and Lonzo Ball the addition of James makes the Lakers an instant relevant team in the loaded west. With the loaded free agent class of 2019 this could be a sign of many good things to come to Tinsel Town if luck comes by for them.

4. Can the young Philadelphia 76ers take the next step that will get them to the Eastern Conference Finals?

After many years of “Tanking” it appears that all the dark years in the “City of Brotherly Love” is finally paying off and there is light at the end of the tunnel. The 2017 number 1 overall draft pick Markelle Fultz has had the whole summer to retool his jump shot. The Sixers can make a deep run in the Eastern Conference if everyone can stay healthy and the reigning Rookie of the Year Ben Simmons can put establish an outside jump shot. Joel Embid is coming off of his first full season after playing two partial seasons and made his first NBA All-Star selection this past season looks to make waves this year as well. Can the team with the most upside put it together and make a long playoff run until late June?

The NBA season kicks on Tuesday October 16thwhere some of these questions will unfold in what looks to be like another amazing season in the NBA. Be sure to check local listings on the slate of games that start next week.
