THE MILK MAN DELIVERS AGAIN: Houston Texan J.J. Watt makes NFL 2010 All-Decade Team.
Houston Texans fans finally have a reason to smile again. After being disgruntled and disappointed over the DeAndre Hopkins trade to Arizona, they learned on Monday that three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, J.J. Watt was named to the NFL 2010 All-Decade Team
The defensive end out of Wisconsin who the Houston Texans drafted in the first-round in 2011 was one of eight players who were voted unanimously to the list according to nfl.com. Watt averaged 17.25 sacks from 2012-15 and accumulated two 20.5 sack seasons during that span which made him the first NFL player to do so in multiple years.
Injuries would take a toll on Watt the next two seasons. He played a combined eight games due to a herniated disc in 2016 and a fractured tibial plateau in 2017. Watt would make a very resounding statement to the rest of the league in 2018 as he returned back to the “Milk Man” (Former teammate Connor Barwin gave him that name because he always delivers). He had 16 sacks on the season and made his fifth NFL All-Pro team and repeated the feat of making the team at two positions (2015 was the other year).
Watt is currently tied for fourth on the active sack’s leaderboard with 96, which also ranks him first in Texans franchise history in that category.
Although Watt’s performance on the field speaks volumes, it is his off the field work that has turned him into a mega-superstar. The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year (2017) and Sports Illustrated Person of the Year (2017) helped raise over $37 million in a fundraiser designed to help families in the state of Texas who had been affected by Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
He posted a heartfelt message on the fundraising page thanking the individuals who donated after the campaign was done.
“There are many places you could have donated your hard-earned money and I'm honored you have chosen to join this effort to support the people who were affected most by Hurricane Harvey,” Watt wrote. “Please keep this spirit of helping one another alive. The world is a better place when we all take care of each other.”
