A team that was in desperate need to replace their superstar quarterback decided that one player who had a similar playing style wasn’t ready to compete at the NFL level.
The Seattle Seahawks decided to pass over former Liberty University quarterback Malik Willis on numerous occasions before the Tennessee Titans drafted him.
Brady Henderson at ESPN reported that the Seahawks’ upper management was not impressed with what they had seen from Willis and have decided that their 2022 starter will come down to whoever wins the battle between Drew Lock and Geno Smith.
"The Seahawks passed on Willis four times before he was taken 86th overall -- feeling he was nowhere near NFL-ready, according to one source."
Willis passed for a combined 5,107 yards in two seasons at Liberty and had another 1,822 yards on the ground, equating to 74 total touchdowns. The Titan rookie signal-caller made the headlines this week when starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill commented that it was not his job to mentor him.
